When'd you decide that? I mean, I can't remember a time when you didn't go on about being a detective, but when did you decide it was a great idea to sink a bunch of money into it?

It's not that big of a mystery. I've never been passionate about anything in my life, so I'm trying to wrap my head around it.

[Maybe saying he's never been passionate about anything is a bit of a stretch, but... It gets the point across well enough, anyway.]

Well, I've always admired them for the reasons anyone else might; they're smart and clever, but they don't lose that human feel to them despite being seemingly out of touch, beyond our reach. Even Holmes had his vices! But they're well-liked and sought after to solve things that stump those otherwise, and always bring the right person to justice, even if that justice lies in allowing the supposed culprit escape.

[They're not black and white, essentially. They're very much human and can make mistakes too, but no one dislikes them just because they make one.]

There's another reason I'd like to become one, though, even if it may remain a... a hobby, I guess, [which he is obviously loathe to call it,] but it's more personal.

[Read: he probably won't give it up.]

[That... Doesn't explain anything, actually, but that last part catches his interest quite a bit.]

I just grew out of the foster system. That part's not much of a secret.

It's not... quite the same, I feel, but... The other reason is to find out who my father is. I've never met him, but I want to know who he is, what made my mom like him in the first place.

[Why he left them, what made him look at his mother and just... decide not to deal with it.]

It's a selfish reason to become a detective, but it's what's been the driving me beyond anything else.
