[After the meeting, after some time has passed and the clock has rung for night time, Silver makes his way back into Gold's room... And doesn't even bother to look composed, instead flopping right onto his bed and burying his head in a pillow.
[Gold's actually got a plate of leftover cream puffs (some of them are filled with spicy cream) that he's playing with, rolling them around because... they are pretty round, kind of like pokéballs with filling, until Silver speaks up.]
Dunno. [...] Sorry about startin' shit at the meeting.
[...On second thought, he's covering his face again. Or half of his face, at least.]
Team Rocket's been up to something, so I went to Lance's hideout to investigate, but he wasn't there. What was there is a bunch of Koffing, and a gym leader that had a broken up message from him.
He said something about "plates", "Arceus", and the Safari Zone. I think I had one of the plates, but I have no idea what it does or what Arceus is, so I went to the new Safari Zone to investigate.
[And then he showed up here. ...If the Wordsmith gets a hand of those plates...]
Weavile and Honchkrow both evolved in the middle of that.
[... Those cream puffs are getting set aside for now, because Gold's gonna lay next to Silver with his hands behind his head.]
Team Rocket's been spotted all around Johto doin' suspicious shit, and that Lance guy's thinkin' they're gettin' back together... to do something with the legendary Alpha Pokémon, Arceus. He wanted that old geezer Oak to send a capable trainer he could tell everything he knew about it.
[That's his piece.]
We were supposed to meet at that new Pokéathlon Dome they built near Goldenrod, but if something's happened with him...
[He trails off, waving a hand.]
Eh, it was a huge pain anyway! Seriously, why couldn't you or Crys free yourselves for a little while to deal with it? Between you disappearin' off the face of the planet and Crys dealin' with kids... there wasn't anyone left but me.
[So more than anything else, they definitely need to find Master Lance. Great. At least he's... Following the right lead. Maybe.]
What's wrong with that? [...] Even if I did free up time to go through Professor Oak, which might have cost my lead, you would have ended up tagging along anyway.
Yeah, but I wouldn't have minded it then! I don't wanna go to some sporty place just to meet some guy that appeared in a hologram.
[... It was a super cool hologram, but still!]
I've got better things to do, you know? Like see the Kimono Girls! Live it up as the savior of Johto! If I've gotta save the world, then I'll do it, but I ain't that interested in whatever kinda Pokémon Arceus is anyway. [...] I'm a little interested, but not enough.
[He's giving Gold a shove to try to knock him off of the bed, but regardless of whether or not it succeeds, he's getting up and locking himself in the bathroom.]
Well, sorry I'm not like you and wantin' to stick my neck out every chance I get! I'm not that kinda person and you know it!
[He's got a good heart. He's got good morals, most of the time. He leans good.
But Gold's always first and foremost someone that's been selfish and he's said as much; if other people benefit from that, then great! But it's always been about him and what he wants first.]
... Besides, [and he's gonna sit at the door, if Silver's not opening it, leaning back against it with a solid thunk,] it ain't like I was his first choice anyway. I knew that even before I called him out on it. I don't know why you would've been a pick over me, but I ain't surprised about Crys. She's the real golden girl out of us three.
[And... he's not trying to sound bitter, but he kind of is. Gold'll take a seat on the floor, leaning back against the door with a heavy thunk.]
Why the hell're you goin' so hard with Team Rocket, anyway? They're thugs, yeah, ain't like I'm their biggest fan either, but still.
[...He's silent for a long moment, debating how much he wants to say, but- screw it, right? They're in this awful situation, and if he's going to insist that Gold don't tell things to everyone else, then-]
I don't know why Professor Oak would pick me over you, but my best guess is because of my connection to Master Lance.
[Master Lance, because Lance isn't just some guy, he's important. Not that he's ever told Gold about that either, has he?
He slumps down against the other side of the door.]
As for Team Rocket, it's not just because they're no life bad guys that mess with Pokémon. It's personal. I have to take them out.
[It's always personal for him. Some heroes they are, right?]
[Good question. He balls up his fists and closes his eyes for a moment, as if willing it away would make this entire situation, this entire conversation less real and he could go back to what he was going before, which... Was probably going to lead to Gold finding out in the first place.
He's so tired.]
Their leader's my dad, for starters.
[That's a hell of a secret to keep for three years.]
Oh, no way, you really hit the shit luck jackpot there, didn't you?
[Damn, that's rough.
... He can't complain about a single damn thing when he lines his shit up to Silver's ever, can he. That's irritating and so is Silver's stupid... Silverness.]
Were you gonna keep that a secret for the rest of our lives?
What was I supposed to say, Gold? Hey, I found my dad, but he's the leader of Team Rocket and I might be the reason they even exist, so I'm just gonna crash on your couch and forget about it?
[Maybe, just maybe, he wanted to pretend that he was normal, just for a minute, like Gold is. That he could have some nice life and happy family instead of all of this.
[It's a little uncertain because the conditions are... pretty dire, honestly. And he's not Crys about this; they both know someone's gonna snap sometime, it's the whole reason they've got each other the way they do. And their burn book.
But they will make it out, one way or another.]
... Do you know who your mom is? Or is it just your dad.
[... Is that weird to say. That feels weird to say. He'll move on, knocking a fist back against the door.]
Anyway, it's not like I don't wanna save the world, I just...
[...]
We're doin' it every year it feels like, you know? Something's always happenin'! We don't get to reap the rewards any! I feel like I haven't seen you and Crys in forever, you're both always too busy doin'... Crys and Silver things. I ain't like you two. [He doesn't have a purpose he's gunning after.] But if the world's in trouble, you know I'm the first to jump in. You can't get rid of me.
