NAME: Silver
AGE: 16
CANON: Pokémon Special
CANON HISTORY: Here!
CANON PERSONALITY:
• In a tough situation, Silver's pretty good at keeping a level head. It's difficult to rattle him, and even when he is uncomfortable, he can generally still keep it together. He's calm, cool, collected, and knows how to think several steps ahead, at least when it comes to serious situations like combat or "johto man tries destroying the world". When Silver does finally lose his cool, however, he completely loses his cool- if something sets him off, he's prone to... Acting like a giant dumbass, really, and lashing out or making rash decisions on the fly. Luckily, his anger usually only lasts for short bursts. He is fairly easy to provoke, however, especially when it comes to something that slights or endangers his friends, let alone his sister. To top it off, his self preservation is absolutely awful, so acting recklessly often means putting himself in danger.
• He has absolutely no idea how to handle social situations whatsoever. The part of Silver's life that wasn't spent being conditioned into being a tool by the Masked Man was spent going after one goal or another, not to mention that he grew up with a bunch of Sneasel and Weavile instead of people. What little social skills he has, he learned from Blue, but he mostly keeps quiet and remains pretty awkward around other people... When he's not blundering his way through conversations entirely. He's also not very expressive, but makes up for the lack of expression or tone with body language. He's more comfortable opening up to Pokémon- especially his Pokémon- than his peers.
• Silver doesn't necessarily distrust people on principle, but it's very difficult to get him to actually trust and open up to people. His childhood didn't lend well to putting his trust in other people, and he's reluctant to open up to or rely on others. He'll care about someone long before he actually opens up and trusts them. Conversely, when he does finally trust people (like his best friends Gold and Crys,) that trust tends to be blind to the point of stupidity. One he's decided he likes and trust someone, he'll follow them without question with very few exceptions.
• Silver is driven. Once he decides on a goal, he dedicates himself to it, regardless of any perceived difficulty or conflicting personal interest. He can be extremely passionate and stubborn about anything he sets his mind to, and failing doesn't deter him at all; he's persistent and keeps getting back up again until he succeeds. He believes that the ends justify the means, and blatantly disregards the law when it comes to his own missions. He tends to be incredibly one track minded, and anything that isn't relevant to the task at hand is either forgotten or tuned out.
• He's compassionate and sympathizes deeply with others. His entire motivation behind wanting to stop Team Rocket and do good things with the rest of the Pokédex Holders (besides personal involvement and validation, because boy is there a lot of that,) is because he's been through enough personal suffering to not want to wish that on anyone else. He cares about others more than he's willing to let on, and he'll go out of his way to help innocent people in trouble, especially if they're caught in the crossfire between him and his enemies. Even his enemies get some sympathy; when he was hellbent on taking out the Masked Man, he held back against some of the other Masked Kids that worked for him, under the impression that they went through the same hell that he did.
• Silver's an extremely forgiving character, possibly to a fault. Despite the fact that Pryce ripped him from his family, put him through hell for years, and effectively traumatized him in a way he still hasn't fully worked through, he accepts his help in a crisis and although a little uncomfortable around him, seems to have mostly accepted his presence when the crisis is over. His mentor Lance attempted to destroy the entire Kanto region with Lugia, and while originally Lance was probably just a means to get at his goals, Lance did end up being an extremely important figure to him. As far as Silver's concerned, what you do in the present is what really seems to matter.
• In the face of an absolutely shitty life, Silver holds onto a surprising amount of optimism. He does his best to make the most out of his circumstances. He's not exactly cheerful or loud about his optimism, but he's quick to quietly smile after getting through serious situations. Once the big crisis with Arceus is over, he immediately immerses himself in a new show that's coming out soon- Proteam Omega. He doesn't have a lot of time to simply enjoy himself, but it definitely looks like he at least tries to make the most of it. Even his attitude towards his dad is overly optimistic; despite his dad repeatedly saying he does evil for evil's sake and is going to continue doing exactly that, he stands firm in his resolution to get him to see the errors of his ways and do good someday.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Pokémon Trainer: Silver knows all about Pokémon. Type match ups, moves, species- he has a strong team of Pokémon and is good at raising them, training them, and guiding them while playing to their strengths. Silver in particular has a specialty in Pokémon trading and to a lesser extent, evolution. He and his sister Blue studied Pokémon trading and evolution as a pair, and he's well versed in knowing when it's a good time to trade, whether it's a longer term investment or in the heat of the moment.
• Actual Forest Child: Growing up more or less in the woods comes with its advantages. Silver is perfectly capable of surviving in the woods, especially with his Pokémon around.
• Ninja Bullshit: Silver's extremely agile and good on his feet; he's frequently seen doing backflips and more or less naruto jumping from tree to tree. He's also a fairly good thief, capable of sneaking into places and stealing things well before he's ever even noticed.
• Anime People: Pokémon people are kind of weird, especially in Pokémon Special. People smash boulders, wrestle with Pokémon, fight for weeks, and sometimes take Hyper Beams to the face! Silver himself is definitely a little stronger and more durable than anything about his physiology would suggest.

AU HISTORY:
All mentions of other characters have been run by the players in question!
• Very little is known about Silver's history before he was around seven or eight; he was simply found on the streets of Recolle one day and brought into the orphanage/foster care system. The authorities were fairly certain his name isn't actually Silver Bells and that his birthday isn't actually Christmas Eve, but given that they have nothing else to go off of, that's his name now. As for what happened to his parents, it's largely a mystery, since Silver doesn't remember much before he was alone on the streets of Recolle, and is even more reluctant to talk about any of it beyond rarely mentioning that he was kidnapped.
• He's been unwieldy and difficult to control, often taking off to do his own thing and being difficult to discipline. This applies both to his fostering and schooling; he's prone to skipping classes and has a reputation for being a delinquent and hanging out with the resident troublemakers. He's difficult and disinterested, but he's also intelligent, and despite all odds he's on his way to graduating from high school this year... And aging right out of the foster care system along with it.
• Makes a considerable amount of money both through his part-time job with Jaeger
scytheguns and street performing. Dancing, drumming on buckets, selling his latest art projects: anything that grabs his interest and can be monetized will be monetized, and he's something of a jack of all trades but master of none in this regard. Speaking of money, he also has a bad pickpocketing habit. He's good at what he does, but has been trying to avoid it lately both because he has other means of making money and he's an adult now. Another questionable habit is dumpster diving on occasion. People toss out valuable electronics all the time, and he's not above capitalizing on that.
• Fluent in Japanese and English. Japanese was his first language, and it took him a while to teach himself to read and write in it, but by now he's fairly proficient in it.
• A complete and utter weeb. Silver loves anime, he loves manga, and he especially involves anything involving mechas. Or ninjas? Ninjas are cool too. He can't afford a lot of merchandise, but prides himself on the few nerdy purchases he's managed to make. He also enjoys video games despite not having much money for them and spends as much time as he can afford in the arcade.
• There is no greater good in the world than animals, and despite never being allowed to have his own pet, Silver has a chronic habit of taking care of strays. He's gotten bitten more times than he can count and regularly gets rabies shots, just in case.
• Lived with Elda Marker
matchbreaker for nearly a year under her foster care when he was thirteen. Although he was quiet and difficult at first, he gradually warmed up to her and her adopted son Toushiro
toushiro. They made quite the family for some time, and Elda often took him around as her own son and even took him to self defense classes. Around December 20th of that year, Silver brought home the latest Xbox system for Toushiro's birthday, but Elda confronted him about having no way to get that money. He openly admitted to stealing the money for it and got scolded for it, and as a result ended up storming out and staying on the streets until he was rehoused. To this day, he still cares about both of them, but is also bitter and full of issues. He finds ways to come over, whether it's to mow Elda's lawn, shovel out her driveway, or bring her cats.
• He can't afford self-defense classes anymore, but he practices with youtube videos. His athletic hobby in the meantime has been parkour for as long as he can remember, as maneuvering the city streets is one of the few things that really sets Silver at ease.
• At some point, one of Albert Wesker's
manufactured dogs got out. It took Silver a while to gain the dog's trust, but he managed to bring him back eventually... But not before getting his dominant left hand mangled pretty badly. Wesker agreed to take him to the hospital if he didn't report his dog and get him put down, and Silver readily agreed (he wasn't planning to anyway.) Since then, Silver makes a habit of visiting the guy (and his dogs) whenever it strikes his fancy. The scar from the bite on his hand is the reason he wears gloves.
Backstory:
• Silver led a fairly average life with relatively ordinary parents (or perhaps less than savory parents, but he was far too young for that to impact him.) This took an abrupt turn fairly young in his life when he ended up being kidnapped at around the age of five. The person who kidnapped him never physically abused him, but it was definitely a place of neglect and verbal abuse; he was provided for, but often left to his own devices and never allowed out, and the only time things seemed more calm was when he threw his head into books to study material that was well above his age curve.
• Years of isolation and living under a constant fear of what could happen left Silver wanting nothing more than to escape from wherever he was. By the time he could start to think of a plan, however, a combination of trauma and simply being too young left him with no memories of anything before this place. It was fine; even if he couldn't go back to wherever he belonged, he still wanted out, and he gradually started pushing the boundaries of what he could do and where he could go, learning to lockpick rooms and sneak around until he was confident enough that he could escape.
• Escaping took off better than he thought it would, really. He managed to slip out of the house rather easily, and his only real obstacle once out was a rather large fence; getting to civilization was another matter, but he managed to wander towards a city eventually, steal a wallet to pay for a train ticket, and make his way far, far away from where he was kidnapped- and eventually to Recolle. The entire ordeal cemented a few undeniable truths for him. Adults- people in general, but especially adults- are unreliable and aren't trustworthy, the only person that can really help him is himself, and... He hates being alone, more than anything. It's something of a contradiction, but he makes his own rules now. No one ever said they had to make sense.
Currently:
• By now, Silver's understanding of the world has changed somewhat, but not entirely. He knows that there are plenty of good people that wouldn't be out to hurt or take advantage of him, but emotional openness and closeness is difficult, and it's much better to keep people at arm's reach. He likes depending on only himself, but he yearns for the acceptance of others. He isn't entirely sure what he wants to do with himself. It would be nice to try to see if he can find his parents, but he's got no clue where to start, or if they're even alive anymore. Maybe repairing things with Elda would be a good goal, but he's convinced that he'll never live up to her standards. He probably should enter college, but his interests are varied, and why pay for college when he can just go straight to work? He's got ambition, but no direction for it. However, he does understand that if he wants to get anywhere, he's going to need money, so he's more than content to continue fulfilling oddjobs and hanging out with his reasonably sized friends group until he can commit to something.
• The one thing he does have an inkling of a direction for is apartment hunting; he's not sure if he'll have enough money for it in the foreseeable future, nor does he really mind not having a home for a while because he has problems, but a space to call his own and fill with cats (or bug puppies) isn't an unwelcome prospect. Animals are a lot more reliable than people, after all.
AU PERSONALITY:
In canon, Silver is driven and motivated by a handful of things. He values his survival and freedom, he likes validation and gets it from the other Pokédex Holders, and he has a sense of responsibility and fulfillment that comes from helping others. In Recolle, Silver has... maybe half of those things. He values his survival and his freedom above all else. He's wary of others and their motives. He isn't terribly sure if he even wants a family, and the one time he's wished for it he made a pretty hot mess of the situation, so it's probably just better if he keeps to himself. Heroism isn't exactly his strong suit either; he's the kind of guy to stick up for people he likes, but something like saving the world is well beyond his comprehension. He hasn't yet had the character development that made him a good heroic person in canon.
But it's not all negatives, either. Growing up without the baggage of Pryce's kidnapping or his father being the leader of Team Rocket has left him with a far better sense of self, and he may be reckless, but he puts a better sense of value on himself. He's also surprisingly better socialized than in canon on account of not growing up in the woods, so he's more used to interacting with people and understands basic social concepts such as pop culture or dating. He's still a fairly quiet person, but is somewhat better at talking when he does. He has far more normal interests than he used to, and he's had the means to get a lot more invested in the ones he does. In canon, it's something of a footnote that Silver ends up getting really excited about a new anime coming out, while he's had a lot more time to indulge in that hobby; in short, he's been given the opportunity to be more normal in a number of ways and has definitely benefited from it.
Other than that, a lot of his underlying traits are still the same. He still cares pretty deeply about other people, but keeps them at arms reach and cares from a distance and in a way that doesn't pull him out of his comfort zone. He's fairly levelheaded until he abruptly isn't, but has different things he's equipped to handle, as a lot of the heroic stuff is well above him. He's a very stubborn and driven person, but doesn't have much to be passionate about. The biggest difference is likely in that he's not nearly as forgiving of a person as he is in canon, as he hasn't had any closure for anything that's happened in his life, but he doesn't hold grudges for much or take many things personally. His outlook on life is best described as optimistic pessimism, as he doesn't expect much, but keeps truckling along in his own way anyway. Finally, he's significantly more childish and attention seeking; even if he has his own blocks that prevent him from reaching out to and connecting with others too closely, that doesn't mean that he isn't a pretty lonely person that wants acceptance and a place in life.
